I bought these Lady Page in November or October, I can't remember. To this day, they have been my favorite purchase of all time. But it pains me to say that I no longer have them. And frankly, I'm absolutely livid as to why.
I had an awful/flaky/inconvenient/disrespectful person named Jennifer contact me awhile back in regards to strassing a pair of maroon patent Pigalle 120. My current friend Elle was looking to sell the exact same pair, in the size Jennifer Sierras wanted. However, Elle opted out of selling them and offered a pair of Miu Miu spectator pumps instead, the ones Alice eventually bought(whom I also hate, and who has blocked me on Facebook). Jennifer was thrilled about the Miu Miu, and sent me over 20 emails asking me to negotiate with Elle for them. At first, she seemed legitimate, reliable if you will. We discussed her wedding dress, if the Miu Miu would match, embellishing some accessories, and also strassing her pairs of white satin Tsar and plum patent Lady Page. The only problem: Elle would only give up the Miu Miu in exchange for the Lady Page.
The Lady Page were my pride and joy. I scored them for an unbelievable $285 and intended on strassing them first in Purple Velvet, but later in Light Siam. Seeing as Jennifer seemed like a promising client, promising to tell all of her Manhattan friends about me and saying she would ship the Tsar out soon, I gave in and sent Elle the Lady Page. I was really sad, to be honest; livid, to be completely frank.
The Lady Page were going to be show-stoppers, shoes that would rival Dita Von Teese's. However, I put my trust in someone that never followed through. Jennifer later went on to ignore most of my emails, eventually saying she had been advised against using me. So after compromising my artistic integrity, I was out my favorite pair of shoes, a client, and now had a pair of Miu Miu I really didn't want to strass. Not only did she lack the courage to email me and let me know she changed her mind, but she pressured me into ordering crystals for the Miu Miu saying that her wedding was within two weeks. In the back of my mind, I sometimes doubt Jennifer Sierras was even a real person. You and I both can now thank her for making me less trusting.
Despite all of this, I am still on a mission to get my Lady Pages. If you own a brand new pair, in sizes 36-39, I am willing to give you 75% off my services in exchange. I will also buy them off you, so name your price!

Next time a problem like this arises, I think you should make your potential client to pay in advance? If she loves whatever shoe so much, it shouldn't be a problem seeing as you have many clients who could vouch for your honesty/integrity.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened to you is terrible, let's hope karma hits her hard :/
Yes, I have definitely made this a non-negotiable aspect of ordering from me, or at least making a deposit. That way, at least they would have something invested. And yes, let's hope karma comes knocking...:-P
ReplyDeleteI started charging a 30% deposit on jobs that involved new clients when I started my design business. After the first three jobs and I worked out that they were valued customers (ie they paid the remainder on time) I got rid of the 30% deposit.
ReplyDeleteThis was only for local clients.
You work with people around the globe.
I suggest you get a deposit on all your jobs.
Maybe work out a percentage that would cover you for the crystal purchase you make for each shoe??

Hi Kiri,
ReplyDeleteMost of my clients can afford the full payment, but if they can't I offer 50/50 payments and even a payment plan.
